Cancer is a scary word. I’ve had relatives who have died from various types of cancer, and it is a diagnosis that often strikes fear into the hearts and souls of those who receive it. Yet, of course, not everyone who is diagnosed with cancer dies from it, and it’s often treatable in its early stages. Also, many people have had success treating their cancers in a holistic manner, using alternative medical practices. Some of these alternative practices are gone into at some length in Ricardo Serrano’s latest book, The Cure & Cause of Cancer.

I am not saying that if you have cancer, you should turn your back on Western medical practices and ignore what your doctor tells you, and I don’t think that the author is saying that, either, with his book. But, as many people have had varying degrees of success following the holistic approach to combating cancer that the author lays out, I think if anything, it wouldn’t hurt to give this approach a chance, along with following whatever advice your doctor gives you.

Serrano has noted, among other things, that chemotherapy destroys healthy cells as well as cancer cells. This can leave a person more susceptible to getting diseases, and pneumonia, that can be life-threatening. Instead of resorting to the use of chemotherapy, Serrano states: “Effective cancer control may lie, rather, with therapy of the ‘shift’ to glycolysis, than with tumor therapy, potentially obviating such developments as drug resistance and major drug toxicity.”

While Serrano mentions other holistic practices that can aid in fighting against cancer, like the qigong style or practice known as Pan Gu Shen Gong, he recommends that people diagnosed with cancer should “use hydrazine sulfate as soon as possible.” Doing this prevents the cancer cells from using the glucose present in your cells to grow.

The use of hydrazine sulfate and the reasons why it is a potentially beneficial alternative to chemotherapy is gone into in great detail in Serrano’s book. Other treatments he mentions to aid in preventing you from getting cancer and which are useful in assisting those who have cancer in their recovery include: “alkaline ionized water, Cessiac Yuccalive herbal formulas, Reishi mushrooms, and the Budwig diet.” Serrano has gone into the Budwig diet in one of his previous books, but in this book, he relates it directly to how being on the diet can help one prevent cancer.

1931 was an important year in cancer research. As the author writes, “Otto Warburg received the Nobel Prize for his demonstration that cancer cells utilize a process known as glycolysis as their chief means of energy production.” Glycolysis, Warburg discovered, “acted in a two-fold manner in cancer: as a source of energy production for the tumor,” and “as a pacemaker for cancer cachexia – the weight loss and bodily debilitation causally associated with more than two-thirds of cancer deaths.”

All of this medical jargon might seem odd to some people who associate the idea of using “holistic healing practices,” with New Age mysticism and mumbo-jumbo. Personally, I feel that much of what Ricardo Serrano has written about in his previous books, which I’ve reviewed here, is very beneficial. The knowledge of the ancients and of cultures around the world, ranging from qigong practices to yoga to meditation, acupuncture, etc., etc., has stood the test of time. They are all very important and can aid in one’s well-being and in the healing of various disorders.

In The Cure & Cause of Cancer, Serrano has shown that he has done his research into not only the holistic practices and wisdom of the ancients in dealing with cancer, but also at Western approaches. I saw what effect chemotherapy had on my own father, first-hand. Who knows if this book had been around at the time he came down with lung cancer, whether it might have helped to prolong his life–as it is, I’ll never know. But, the theory behind starving cancer cells of the glucose they need to grow and reproduce by the use of hydrazine sulfate is, I believe, one that has definite merit to it. If readers combine that with the other treatments Serrano mentions, they just might find the results are more than they could hope to achieve by chemotherapy.
