“Vielight RX Plus” PBM device is a possible treatment for COVID-19. We are hypothesizing that the RX Plus would help to shorten the disease duration, while improving the immune system‘s response. – Dr. Lew Lim

There are precedents in history when people had to fight an invisible enemy. However, for the first time such an invisible enemy, Covid-19, has caused the world of seven billion people to be gripped in fear, pain and hope, all at once. Driven by a common goal of stopping the pandemic, major and small pharmaceutical companies, and private and government-sponsored laboratories around the world are intensely searching for a cure.

Despite the extreme scientific spotlight on COVID-19, there are no registered clinical trials involving a therapeutic medical device yet. In this regard, we are proud to announce that Vielight is now moving ahead to investigate our “Vielight RX Plus” PBM device as a possible treatment for COVID-19. This investigation is designed as a randomized controlled study.

This announcement follows last month’s white paper co-authored by Vielight’s Founder & CEO, Dr. Lew Lim. The white paper presented scientifically–based arguments and proposed that the Vielight X-Plus could be a viable option for treating the COVID-19 disease.

“With so much uncertainty and fear in the world today, and with the disease continuing to ravage human lives, our entire team wants to take action in helping to defeat this pandemic. Some of our team members and family members had experienced this sickness. Because it is so infectious, there is a good chance that it will catch up to more of us before too long,” remarked Dr. Lew Lim.

“We needed to know whether we have a therapy to protect ourselves against this disease and to prevent disability or death. Fortunately, Vielight has already developed a device that not only stimulates specific parts of the brain, but also has the capability to stimulate the thymus gland. Why the thymus gland, you may ask. The thymus gland is the site where protective white blood cells (the T-cells) mature and then go on to fight the viruses.

The device is the existing Vielight X Plus. It will be modified into a proposed medical device for treating COVID-19 under the name “Vielight RX Plus”. Until the prospective clinical trial is complete, we hold our breath to see whether clinical evidence supports it as an effective therapy against this deadly virus.

Creative Study Design
Dr. Nazanin Hosseinkhah, Vielight’s Research Scientist who is managing this research initiative, commented on the trial. “It has been an intense effort by the whole research team over the last 2 months to put together a well-designed study.

The challenge has been the novelty of our approach to deal with the highly transmissive nature of the disease in our research. We had to design a virtual study to mitigate these challenges. We are awaiting the green light from Health Canada and the independent review board (IRB) to proceed with the study.

The study will test a total of 280 subjects. These subjects will be randomized into a standard of care (SOC) group and a SOC plus treatment group. We will be monitoring the groups and measuring how well the RX Plus can help a person with COVID-19 to recover. We are hypothesizing that the RX Plus would help to shorten the disease duration, while improving the immune system’s response.”

Dr. Lim adds, “Once we obtain consent from the regulatory bodies to move forward, we will inform the public on how they can participate in the study. For logistical reasons, our clinical trial will be confined to the province of Ontario, Canada.”

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a patent to Dr. Lew Lim, Founder & CEO of Vielight Inc, for the invention of the Vielight Neuro (that also covers all Vielight models). The patent is titled, “METHOD, SYSTEM AND APPARATUS FOR NON-INVASIVE NEUROSTIMULATION THERAPY OF THE BRAIN”. Its number is: US 10,632,325 B2, and the priority date of November 23, 2015. Vielight has full rights to use this technology. The worldwide patent, covering several other countries, is pending.

Medical Cannabis Patient Testimonials

Brenda L. of Ohio: Breast Cancer
“Eight years ago, Brenda was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was in stage I when they found it. She underwent the lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy.

A lumpectomy is where just the tumor is removed as well as the normal breast tissue that closely surrounds the tumor. Sentinel node refers to the first lymph node(s) that drains from the breast tumor area (found by injecting a radioactive dye).

“They shoot radiation into your breast and they follow it up to the nodes to make sure that you don’t have cancer in your lymph nodes. And I did not, so all I had to have was radiation…and hormone therapy. Because my cancer was fed by the estrogen.”

Tamoxifen is used to treat certain types of breast cancer that require estrogen to grow. It’s often used following surgery and radiation. (Drugs.com can provide more information on this line of treatment.)

“That’s the drug from Hell, too…the hot flashes were like a hundred times worse. I mean you just break out into a sweat all over. For no reason. I mean 25, 30 times a day. And the radiation…it was..I don’t know…it was a weakening. It didn’t hurt. It was completely painless. You wonder, what are they shooting through your body? But you…can’t feel it. But you can afterwards.”

Brenda still has scars from the over-spray of the radiation, now, eight years later. It burned her skin. Brenda was lucky that she’s dark skinned. After the treatment, “…they were surprised because they said, most of the time, the skin peels away. But I’m part Indian. They said I did very well.”

One of her breasts is bigger than the other because of the effects of the radiation.

“After the radiation, it left you very drained. And, so nauseous, you didn’t even want to think about food.”

Brenda had heard that cannabis was good for treating the nausea following cancer therapy. So she tried it. “And I could eat my dinner.”

Maintaining a consistent weight was important. The wasting that follows this kind of treatment can kill just as easily as the cancer it’s self.

Brenda underwent thirty-five days of radiation. “Boom, boom, boom.” That’s the deliberate way the treatments went. Then, another type of radiation. “They gave me two different kinds.”

“If I hadn’t had the cannabis to get through the nauseousness, I would have lost weight and, I don’t know, who knows what would have happened.”

“Cannabis gives me a lift. It doesn’t lay me back or anything. I want to do things, and it gave me energy that I didn’t have at that time. I could eat. That was the important thing.”

Since she smoked her cannabis, she did have some respiratory irritation, but that was minimal and could have been remedied if she would have known about vaporizers.

Brenda also suffers from arthritis in her knee and in her hip. In addition, she has chronic pain in her feet and has had surgery in both of them.

“…I get around real well. Fifty-seven and I still mow the grass. I usually smoke cannabis before I do. It kind of lessens the pain and keeps me going.”

The anti-inflammatory benefit of cannabis helps her with her arthritic pain. “It takes your mind away; away from your pain.”

Brenda sums up her feelings about cannabis by saying, “They should let people grow their own medicine if they want to. And it would be so easy. So easy for somebody. Plant a little seed. Get some medicine.”

Catherine Adaberry of Missouri: Breast Cancer

Catherine developed breast cancer in 2002. She was in her 40’s. No one in her family had ever dealt with the disease. It was a difficult time for her and her loved ones. She underwent surgery and considerable chemotherapy and radiation treatments. “Physically, it took quite a toll on me…I was very sick.”

“I was sick the whole time, and I used marijuana. It helped.”

She had heard that cannabis could help with those battling cancer. A member of her extended family had dealt with brain cancer. He used cannabis and attributed his prolonged life to his use of cannabis.

With the chemo, Catherine didn’t want to eat. She just didn’t have an appetite. She was a nervous wreck. “I would smoke and I could eat. I would smoke and I could sleep. With the radiation, it was the same thing.”

“There’s just so much stress with having cancer. I mean, your hair falls out. You don’t feel good. I had grand babies during that time and I couldn’t hold them. I was an emotional wreck. It helped. So many pills…you don’t want to take another pill. It was so much better just to smoke – and to eat – and to smoke – and to sleep.”

She lived in Sheldon and would have to travel to treatment in Kansas City or Joplin. When she was undergoing chemotherapy, she would have to spend the night there. It was stressful having to carry cannabis with her. But it was necessary, to get through the treatments.

She would tell others who were also battling cancer about cannabis. “It helps with your stomach. Your stomach is just in knots all the time. It does help. It helped me a lot.”

The stress of trying to find cannabis was particular hard. It’s unfortunate, but most cancer patients across this country have to go to the street to get their medicine; from someone they don’t know, dealing out of their car. Never knowing what they are getting. “And you don’t know what kind of trouble you might be getting yourself into, either. If it would have been legal, things would have been a lot easier.”

These days, she’s doing well. But she still talks to people about cannabis; those diagnosed with cancer. If they can’t eat or can’t sleep – “I know it will help them.”

It Works (Abstract)

There is a plentiful supply of research articles and personal testaments that show the efficacy of cannabis effecting cancer remission. However, only a few point to the mechanism by which the cancer cells die. To understand this better we need to know what metabolic processes provide life to the cells.

There are two structures in most cells that sustains life; one is the mitochondria, and the other is the endoplasmic reticulum. The mitochondria primarily produces adenosine triphosphate (ATP) that provides the necessary energy. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a loosely bound envelope around the cell nucleus that synthesizes metabolites and proteins directed by the nuclear DNA that nourish and sustain the cell.

Let us look first at tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and observe that THC is a natural fit for the CB1 cannabinoid receptor on the cancer cell surface. When THC hits the receptor, the cell generates ceramide that disrupts the mitochondria, closing off energy for the cell.

Disruption of the mitochondria releases cytochrome c and reactive oxygen species into the cytosol, hastening cell death. It is notable that this process is specific to cancer cells. Healthy cells have no reaction to THC at the CB1 receptor. The increase in ceramide also disrupts calcium metabolism in the mitochondria, completing the demise to cell death.

The other cannabinoid we know is effective in killing cancer cells is cannabidiol (CBD). The primary job of CBD in the cancer cell is to disrupt the endoplasmic reticulum through wrecking of the calcium metabolism, pushing calcium into the cytosol. This always results in cell death. Another pathway for CBD to effect cancer cell death is the Caspase Cascade, which breaks down proteins and peptides in the cell. When this happens the cell cannot survive. Again, these processes are specific to cancer cells, no normal cells are affected.

Initially, nine years ago, I persistently learned and practiced Wuji Qigong from Taoist Master Michael Winn, Sheng Zhen Wuji Yuan Gong from
Master Li Jun Feng, and finally became certified as a Pan Gu Mystical Qigong instructor from Master Ou Wen Wei. I have noticed that my symptoms of fatigue, depression and high blood pressure gradually went away for good but my failing left eye with soreness seemed to still bother me. I started using EFT therapy, Zhan Zhuang Qigong, Qi Dao, Shaktipat Meditation, and Guru Yoga with Master Choa Kok Sui’s Super Brain Yoga which greatly relieved the eye pain.

Realizing that I have to balance my heavenly yang practices like Qigong with earthly yin Chinese tonic herbs, I started taking the three main Chinese tonic herbs Reishi Mushroom (Ling Zhi), Panax ginseng (Ren Shen) and Schizandra fruit (Wu Wei Zi) with other tonic herbs, cannabis and Alkaline Water with Western herbs which eventually took care of my left eye soreness and blurred vision.

Cannabis with Qigong is the main herb that took care of my left eye pain together with my other symptoms such as sciatic pain, fatigue, high blood pressure and depression.

Tao Healing Hands


My wife was hospitalized three days for nose bleeding

She was admitted in the emergency ward of Jesus Nazarene General Hospital, Lingayen, Philippines December 3, 2016 for non-stop nose bleeding caused by high blood pressure (HBP). This was due partly to jet lag, and unsually hot weather stress. She was put in dextrose and prescribed essential hypertension medication ibsertan to control her HBP. I stayed with her the whole time during her 3-day stay helping her move around in an air-conditioned room in the second floor, constantly applying Qi-healing (pranic healing) on her chakras and fetching medical supplies from the hospital’s pharmacy in the ground floor. The nose bleeding was controlled during her first night in the hospital which gave her and me great comfort. Overall, the doctors, nurses and other health professionals were very caring and comforting checking her blood pressure every three hours.

Because my wife is a Filipino-born senior citizen with a senior citizen card, the cost of her stay with doctor’s fees and services were minimal and paid for mostly by Philhealth insurance. My wife and I are both senior citizens with senior citizen cards entitling us to discounts in food, theater, transportation fare and health insurance.

My right wrist got sprained

My right wrist got sprained cutting open four fresh coconut (bukos) December 26, 2016. My wife wanted me to go to the hospital to get treated. My Chinese medical training reminded me that this condition could be easily handled by seeing a traditional Filipino bone setter (manghihilot) which I did. A western medical approach would be to treat my sprained right wrist with a cast and plenty of pain killers.

After the first session with the Filipino bone setter (manghihilot) who smokes cigarettes, my wrist got better and I can sleep soundly without the throbbing carpal nerve pain. The only catch with this bone-setting therapy is the intermittent pain involved during the therapy. As he was fixing my wrist pain, memories of my childhood visits with my late beloved mother together to traditional Filipino healers (manghihilot) were revived whenever fever and pain can’t be controlled by western medicine. With the assistance of Qigong practice my right wrist was healed faster.

Concluding remarks:

The learning lessons for these emergencies is to have health insurance, an air-conditioned room and have someone to cut open fresh coconuts in the hot weather country like the Philippines.

These life emergencies are inevitable and can be managed with the practice of Qigong to lift ones spirits, and importantly for self-healing and healing others improving greatly the chance of health recovery as shown above.

What is the difference between cannabis and hemp?
Even though cannabis and hemp describe the exact same plant, their composition, cultivation, processing and end uses are sufficiently different that it is often useful to draw a distinction between cannabis and hemp.

Terminology: Cannabis vs. Hemp
We use the word “cannabis” generally as an overall term, to mean any variety the plant Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica.

We will also use the word “cannabis” or “medicinal cannabis” to mean psychoactive or high-THC preparations of the cannabis plant used for medicine.

We usually use the word “hemp” or “industrial hemp” to mean cannabis plants that are non-psychoactive and low in THC and are grown primarily as industrial crop, for building materials, paper, plastic, fiber, seed oil, etc.

Marijuana is a Racist Word
We try to use the word “marijuana” or “marihuana” only when we are referring to laws or racist propaganda that contain those terms. The word “marijuana” is a racist term that was invented in the 1920s during the Reefer Madness campaign to demonize cannabis. Cannabis and hemp opponents wanted to convince the public that Mexicans and black people were smoking cannabis and raping white women, so they coined the word “marijuana” to give the herb a racist connotation. The public did not realize that “marijuana” was what they had always known as “cannabis” or “hemp”. The public believed that “marijuana” was some new devil weed, which was causing mayhem and madness among minorities. We try to use only the historically correct terms, cannabis or hemp.
